Over the past few days the Aon Racing team have been competing in the Asian Match Race Championships in Malaysia. This regatta is the only qualifier to the most prestigious event in the match racing scene, the Monsoon Cup, which is the final regatta in the World Match Racing tour. Only the top team will progress to the Monsoon Cup.

Aon Racing had a poor first round robin, winning just 2 races from 6. However, the team bounced back wonderfully to top the second round robin equal with David Gilmour on 5 wins, 1 loss. This qualified the team in third place for the semi finals, racing Gilmour for a spot in the final. The first race of the semis was raced in a dying sea-breeze, with thunderstorms towering over the landward side of the course. We won the side of the course that we wanted at the start, but unfortunately missed the first shift. The race was close from this point, but we were unable to pass, giving Gilmour a 1-0 lead in the first to 3 points series.
